Outreach Program: TRAC’s multi-media outreach program combines video documentaries, brochures, flyers, reports, and slide shows to disseminate the results of TRAC’s radiological surveys. TRAC produces short (10 minutes) educational videos - in collaboration with public-interest organizations and residents – to address their communities’ needs. Those documentaries raise public awareness of the radiological harms done by nuclear facilities and are the core of TRAC’s site-specific outreach packages. TRAC distributes each outreach package to concerned citizens, regional activists, local groups, and government agencies working on nuclear issues across the nation; providing cross-site information to increase public involvement and the effectiveness of public oversight of the nation’s nuclear facilities. TRAC also produces half-hour videos, a format that supports TRAC’s broader dissemination goals by increasing distribution outlets to include the educational market, nuclear policy organizations, and film festivals.

Community Outreach: TRAC collaborates with regional groups around nuclear facilities to develop outreach materials that address local concerns. The RadioActivist Campaign works with its collaborators to organize and co-host community meetings based on TRAC’s radiological findings and their implications. Recent collaborators include the Cascade Chapter of the Sierra Club, Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety, the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League, and Tri-Valley CAREs.

TRAC is a technical advocate for the concerns of Hanford “downwinders” and attends public meetings and hearings to promote improved public health studies and radioactive waste cleanup efforts.

TRAC occasionally provides technical advice and peer review for public-interest groups conducting their own radiological surveys.

Media Interfacing: TRAC uploads significant radiological results to the media to bring TRAC’s findings to a wide audience. TRAC collaborates with local groups to host press conferences to publicize the study results as warranted.

Available Material: Many of TRAC’s reports are available as .pdf downloads on its reports/products page of the web site. The reports/products page also has hardcopy reports and videos for sale. Customized informational packages are available upon request.

Available Services: TRAC conducts collaborative radiological surveys of American and foreign nuclear sites with regional organizations. These studies combine independent, technical oversight with community outreach, leading to public empowerment and involvement. TRAC provides local organizations with site-specific outreach packages as part of this service.

TRAC presents custom 35mm slide shows to schools, public-interest groups, and others upon request.

Two or three boat tours for parties of 4 – 12 of the Hanford Reach, guided by Norm Buske, are arranged each year. If interested, please begin to make arrangements early.

Outreach Contact: Please contact Moon Callison at mooncal@tscnet.com or at 360.275.1351. When requesting TRAC’s services please allow sufficient lead-time.
